Scrap Your Car in Basildon, Essex
Whether you’ve got an old banger that’s finally given up it’s fight for life or you’re car has been written off in some way, shape or form, it may be time for your car to take it’s journey over the rainbow bridge or as we here at Mackers refer to it, to the great big scrap yard in the sky.
Despite this being quite a common step for most people, the majority find themselves unaware of where or how to begin – thankfully we’re here to show you the process of scrapping your car and what a quick and easy process it is too.
How Do I Scrap My Car?
Scrapping a car is simple. Back in the day, you would have had to pay someone to remove your car for you. Fast forward to today however and the value of your car’s ‘scrap metal’ means people are now willing to come and collect. What’s more, they’ll pay you for the trouble. Money aside, having someone come to collect your car is a huge convenience in itself, especially if you’re making way for a new one or it’s given up it’s fight in a rather inconvenient location.
The scrapping of your car must be carried out by a scrapyard or what’s known as an Authorised Treatment Facility that’s licensed by the Environmental Agency. Here at Macker’s Total Recycling in Basildon, Essex we’re fully licensed to scrap your vehicles and we’re passionate about doing so in the most environmentally friendly way possible – by recycling as much as we can.
What About The Paperwork?
While scrapping your car is relatively easy, there are of course a few formalities that need to be taken care of, in the form of paperwork. Without completely the necessary paperwork, you could risk facing a £1000 fine but don’t worry, it’s minimal and relatively easy too. Here’s everything you need to know.
V5C (Vehicle Logbook)
It’s illegal to scrap a car without the logbook. The logbook not only proves ownership but also prevents any unauthorised sales of said vehicle. You’ll need to retain the V5C/3 or yellow slip from the logbook and fill in the necessary details before forwarding on to the address on the form. With this, you’ll also need to send the receipt you’ll receive from us, upon collection of your car. This will be a receipt from us certifying that we’ve collected/bought the vehicle to scrap.
CoD (Certificate Of Destruction)
The CoD should then be sent to you via post or email. This usually takes place within a week of you sending the above-mentioned documentation. This is as it states, a certificate to prove that the car has been destroyed/recycled and pardons you of any responsibility for that vehicle.
How Much Do I Get For Scrapping My Car?
Prices for scrapping cars can vary so it’s best that you speak with us direct. We’ll ask a series of questions to determine the correct value before making you an offer. Once we have the vehicle within our possession, we’ll then dispose of it in the most environmentally friendly way possible – by recycling and reusing the materials where and when we can to reduce the waste produced.
